Read the directions supplied with your specific adhesive and test the complete material combination on a hidden area or spare sample.
Define the no-glue areas
Keep rhinestones and adhesive away from the rim, lid seal, threads, straw opening, interior and any area that touches the mouth or beverage. A decorated tumbler should remain a decorative exterior project, not a change to the vessel’s food-contact surfaces.
Test the finish before covering it
Painted, powder-coated and stainless surfaces may respond differently. Test the complete stone-and-glue combination on a hidden spot or spare sample and allow the label-directed cure. Check for clouding, lifting or a finish change before continuing.
Work around the cylinder
Mark a narrow starting line and dry-lay one repeat of the pattern. Use a stable cradle so the tumbler cannot roll. Complete a small area at a time and stop before gravity can pull the stones out of alignment.
Keep water and heat expectations realistic
Do not assume that a rhinestone-covered tumbler is dishwasher-safe, soak-safe or suitable for hot liquids. Follow the care directions for the vessel and adhesive, and inspect the exterior after cleaning or transport.
