Read the directions supplied with your specific adhesive and test the complete material combination on a hidden area or spare sample.
Give each tool one job
Use the pickup pen for quick placement of flatback stones, and tweezers for turning, correcting or retrieving a stone from a tight gap. Keep both tools clean and use a tray with a shallow edge so the stones do not roll away between steps.
Place glue before reaching for the stone
Prepare a short row of adhesive dots, then pick up only the next few stones. This keeps the glue from sitting open for too long and makes it easier to correct the pattern while the pieces are still adjustable under the product directions.
Use a visual alignment check
After every short row, look from the front and from the side. The side view shows whether a stone is tilted or sitting on a ridge of excess glue. Fix a mistake while the adhesive instructions permit adjustment instead of waiting until the bond has developed.
Reset the station between colours
Return unused stones to their compartment, wipe the tool in an approved way and close the glue nozzle during longer pauses. A two-minute reset keeps colours from contaminating one another and makes the next session faster.
Quick checklist
