Read the directions supplied with your specific adhesive and test the complete material combination on a hidden area or spare sample.
Test the complete fabric stack
Colour, weave, stretch, coating and backing all affect the result. Test the face fabric together with any lining or interfacing. Watch for bleed-through, dark marks, stiffness and distortion after curing.
Choose the placement zone
Decorations survive better when the fabric beneath them does not fold sharply or rub constantly. Map the design while the garment is being worn, then keep motifs away from tight cuffs, elbows and seam allowances.
Prevent layers from sticking together
Insert a protected flat board inside the garment or bag. Keep the textile relaxed rather than stretched, unless the design was specifically planned and tested for that stretched state.
Reconsider washing and heat
A decorated textile may require different care from the original garment. Check the adhesive, fabric and embellishment guidance for washing, drying and ironing. If their instructions disagree, use the most restrictive requirement.
