Read the directions supplied with your specific adhesive and test the complete material combination on a hidden area or spare sample.
Choose a low-stress area
Back panels, yokes and selected pocket areas may offer larger design spaces than elbows, cuffs and tight folds. Put the jacket on before deciding so you can see where the fabric bends, stretches or rubs.
Transfer the motif carefully
Create a paper pattern and mark only with a method suitable for the fabric. Arrange stones on the template first. Symmetrical motifs are easier when you establish a vertical centre line and place major stones before smaller fillers.
Keep the fabric flat
Place a protected board inside the garment so adhesive cannot pass through to another layer. Work in short sections and prevent the denim from shifting while the stones are being aligned.
Plan care before decorating
Adhesive and rhinestones can change whether and how a garment may be washed, dried or ironed. Check all material instructions first. If the care requirements conflict, choose a removable accessory or a different project surface.
Quick checklist
- Avoid high-flex zones
- Use a full-size paper motif
- Protect the layer underneath
- Decide on garment care first
